Finnair upgrade travel class via mobile phone

Finnair is a pioneer in offering mobile services to passengers. The most popular of Finnair’s mobile services is the mobile check-in,Of the other mobile services, one that has proved popular is the mobile upgrade, namely for Finnair Plus customers to upgrade from economy class to business class via mobile phone.

Frequent flyers will be offered this option when business class seats are available.

The new service is an easy and simple way to use accumulated Finnair Plus points or a travel class upgrade award. Like check-in text messages, the messages should be answered with one letter, in this case 'U' as in upgrade, explains Anna Korpi, who is responsible for Finnair Plus marketing.

Customers' chances of receiving such a message depends, among other things, on the booking class of the ticket they bought. Before sending the message, a check is also made that the customer has sufficient Finnair Plus points, or points that are soon to expire, or an available travel class upgrade award, which are needed to redeem the seat. The service is personal and flight-specific.

In the near future, it will also be possible for Finnair customers to pay by mobile for various travel services, such as special meals for flights as well as different products, such as tickets for entry to the Finnair Spa & Saunas at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport.

− Own booking information: using a mobile browser, at the address m.finnair.com – includes the opportunity to change seat, update one's own contact information and obtain general travel-related news, such as flight departure and arrival times and airport information.
A mobile payment intelligent text message (iSMS) system has been developed by BookIT Oy and Luottokunta.
