united airlines now offering One-Way Awards. For half the miles of a roundtrip award tickets(starting at 12,500 miles for a domestic Saver Award), you can fly one way on United-, United Express-operated flights, and Star Alliance partners.

One-Way Awards are available for both Saver Awards (fewer miles) and Standard Awards (more miles and more flexibility).
• You can use Saver Awards to fly United-, United Express-operated flights and Star Alliance partners.

American added this customer-friendly feature this past May. Other legacy carriers do offer one-way frequent-flier awards, though they still require the same amount of miles that are required for round-trip rewards. Some low-cost carriers – such as Southwest and AirTran – have long offered one-way award travel for half the credit needed for a round-trip award ticket.

You'll be able to mix and match different award levels when booking a roundtrip award ticket.
United also unveiled a "Miles & Money" frequent flyer award that lets customers redeem a combination of cash and miles for an award ticket.

UK refuses to relax 100 ml liquid rule

The European Union is moving too quickly to lift a 100 ml european rule on airline passengers carrying liquids onto flights, the European airports association said on Wednesday, saying loosening the ban could endanger security.
Carrying more than 100 ml of liquid in hand luggage has been banned in Europe since 2006, after British police uncovered a plot to blow up transatlantic airliners bound for North America using bombs made from liquid explosives.
The measures were not adopted uniformly elsewhere in the EU, with many travellers previously facing much stricter restrictions on carrying liquids out of the UK than they did on their return from an EU country.

In April, EU-bound passengers from non-EU countries will be allowed to take on board any liquids, aerosols and gels purchased at an airport in the preceding 36 hours. The move is a preliminary step for lifting the ban for all passengers in April 2013.
The transport secretary, Philip Hammond, has told UK airport owners that the first phase in lifting 100ml rule restrictions will not go ahead as planned on 29 April. Passengers on long-haul flights from outside the European Union would have been allowed to carry duty-free liquids on to connecting flights at EU airports. Airlines and airport groups have warned that the proposal would lead to severe delays because terminals might not have adequate screening equipment, while some countries such as France and Italy are considering ignoring the 29 April deadline.

american airlines oneway Awards tickets

American Airlines is revolutionizing the frequent flyer business with the new AAdvantage One-Way Flex Awards. previously, you could book a free flight for as few as 25,000 miles, but that ticket would always have to be round trip.
American is the first major domestic airline to offer a one-way award ticket at a true one-way price at just one-half the amount of the required round-trip miles.
The move by the USA's second-biggest airline was greeted gladly by travel analysts familiar with fliers' frustrations about the inflexibility of many awards programs.
American Airlines' frequent fliers can book one-way award flights — for half the miles required to book a round-trip ticket.AAdvantage members can fly one-way trip for 12,500 points, half the 25,000 needed for a free round trip.
One-Way Flex Awards give AAdvantage members the flexibility to combine different one-way awards on a single itinerary. For instance, a member may travel outbound on an Economy Class MileSAAver award and return on an economy class AAnytime award. Or, a member may choose to travel in different classes of service on a trip, such as traveling outbound in Business or First Class and returning in Economy Class.
Several small and discount carriers allow their frequent fliers to turn in points for one-way trips. But American is the first of the USA's big conventional network carriers to allow it.
Called One-Way Flex Awards, the change lets AAdvantage members:
•Fly one way on an award ticket and return by another means, including a purchased one-way ticket. •Book a trip to several cities on points. Previously, AAdvantage required round-trip travel between two cities.
•Book an award trip in coach in one direction and a premium-class seat in the other.
•Split an award trip between American and one of its 20 AAdvantage program partner airlines. Previously, awards trips had to be completed entirely on American or entirely on one of its partners.
•Travel in one direction on an award ticket at "off-peak" times and the other on a "peak" award ticket. Frequent fliers long have been frustrated by the difficulty of finding available seats both ways within "off-peak" periods, which require fewer mileage points.

direct flights Washington dulles to india

India's national carrier, Air India operate direct flights from Washington Dulles International Airport to New Delhi and Kolkata, using their Boeing 777-200LRs.
The move will allow Air India to improve their fleet utilization and earn revenue on an aircraft which currently racks up a dozen hours of parking fees at JFK’s Terminal 4 whenever it arrives from India.

Because they are a non-US carrier, Air India will be unable to offer tickets on the domestic legs of JFK-IAD-JFK, but Air India passengers from Washington will be able to transfer to the carrier’s evening Mumbai service at JFK.

The flights will depart from Washington at 12:10 P.M., stop en-route at New York’s JFK Airport, and continue nonstop to Delhi, arriving at 4:45 P.M. the following afternoon. Continuing service is offered to Kolkata. Passengers bound for Mumbai will be able to transfer at JFK to the carrier’s evening, nonnstop JFK-Mumbai flight.

All of the flights from Washington offer a choice of Economy, Executive and First Class service. Economy Class seats feature a 34-inch seat pitch, therapeutic footrest, and 10.6 inch, built-in LCD monitor. Executive Class passengers enjoy flat beds, a 76-inch seat pitch, a privacy partition, and 15.4-inch LCD screen. First Class cabins include flat bed compartments with a built-in massage system, buddy seat, a 23-inch LCD screen, and 80-inch seat pitch.

Other amenities onboard Air India’s Boeing 777s include personal entertainment systems with nearly 400 hours of individual, on-demand audio/visual entertainment, USB ports, laptop connectivity, and satellite telephone service in every cabin. Topping the list of most popular features is the choice of award-winning Indian or Continental meal and free drink service in all classes.
