finnair business class Bangkok flight review

There are times when nothing but the best will do. That applies to travel over long distances as much as anything. Passengers who opt for Finnair’s Business Class are paying premium fares so it’s only right that their travel experience should be something memorable and special – for all the right reasons. From check-in and baggage drop at departure to baggage collection at the destination airport, every aspect of comfort and convenience is taken into account, and attention to detail is what makes the difference. You want to arrive at your business destination as fresh and relaxed as possible, although of course you don’t have to be a business person to travel in and enjoy the pleasures of Finnair Business Class.

It’s a very busy ski-holiday Friday at Helsinki airport. Destination: Bangkok. The baggage drop desk staff are dealing briskly with the many arriving passengers, but the chance to head straight to the Business Class check-in and drop-off counter is never more welcome. There is also a fast track security lane, and passage to the transit area of Helsinki’s Terminal 2 is completed within five minutes of arriving at the airport. Remarkable.

Next it’s time to head for the new non-Schengen area and long–haul terminal – newly installed automatic passport readers for holders of electronic passports speed up the process – and, according to Business Class entitlement, to the Finnair Lounge near gate 36. There’s a fabulous Finnair Spa & Saunas facility nearby: make a mental note – get here an hour earlier before the next flight to give it a try. The Spa is open to passengers flying to or from a country outside the European Schengen area and also passengers with connecting flights, who have access to the Non-Schengen area in the terminal. Finnair Plus Platinum members have free access to the spa, but other passengers pay an entrance fee.
There’s half an hour or so before flight AY089 to Bangkok at 16.40 is due to leave – time to spread out in the spacious, airy, natural-light-filled Finnair Lounge, to check some emails on the iMac machines, sip a glass of New Zealand Sauvignon Cuvee and a bowl of soup of the day. There’s also time to use the wire-free phone chargers and stroll up to the top level to watch Finnair’s wide-bodied Airbus aircraft preparing to depart to other Asian destinations.
It’s time to board. Naturally, Business Class passengers have their own boarding lane and soon they are making themselves at home and being welcomed by cabin crew in the expansive cabin with a glass of champagne – Joseph Perrier Cuvee Royale, Brut Vintage 2003, no less - or juice. Boarding is completed on time and newspapers and magazines are distributed. The plane pushes back and the captain announces that the flight will be cut to just nine and half hours (from the more than 11 scheduled) as the result of a good tailwind.
Passengers settle into their places as menus and pre-dinner drinks are distributed. It’s a tricky decision, but let’s go for pan-fried Arctic char with chanterelle sauce and boiled Lapp potatoes, followed by white chocolate cake. There are plenty of small snacks and fruit in the galley if hunger strikes later in the flight. Finnair has won a long list of awards for its Business Class wines, so the opportunity cannot be overlooked to sample a glass of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc 2009 or Campomaggio Chianti Classico 2007.

A spot of shopping, perhaps? A last-minute gift for a business partner or an awaiting friend? The Finnair Shop has all sorts of top quality items and Finnair Plus members earn points for their purchases (click here to get all the details about inflight shopping).

The watch is set five hours ahead to Thai time and there is plenty of time to browse the latest issue of Finnair’s inflight magazine, Blue Wings after filling out the immigration forms handed out by cabin crew. Then choose a movie using the advanced personal entertainment system provided for each individual passenger.

Gradually the urge to sleep takes over. No problem. Take out the ear plugs and eye shades from the pack supplied to each Business Class seat, use the arm-rest controls to gently slide your seat down to the lie-flat position and spread out the blanket – and it’s off to the land of nod.
Some hours later the aroma of warming croissants and omelette provides a gentle sensory alarm. After breakfast the aircraft begins its descent. Within several minutes of landing, ahead of schedule, there’s a short wait in line at the passport counter. By the time you get to the baggage belt, the first bags are coming through – with Business Class Priority-labelled bags arriving ahead of the load.
Then it’s out into the Bangkok heat – the 30 degrees here comes as the only shock after minus 10 in Helsinki - and into town in a taxi. Bangkok? It’s 8,317 kilometres from Helsinki. In Finnair Business Class it feels like it’s just down the road.

Finnair upgrade travel class via mobile phone

Finnair is a pioneer in offering mobile services to passengers. The most popular of Finnair’s mobile services is the mobile check-in,Of the other mobile services, one that has proved popular is the mobile upgrade, namely for Finnair Plus customers to upgrade from economy class to business class via mobile phone.

Frequent flyers will be offered this option when business class seats are available.

The new service is an easy and simple way to use accumulated Finnair Plus points or a travel class upgrade award. Like check-in text messages, the messages should be answered with one letter, in this case 'U' as in upgrade, explains Anna Korpi, who is responsible for Finnair Plus marketing.

Customers' chances of receiving such a message depends, among other things, on the booking class of the ticket they bought. Before sending the message, a check is also made that the customer has sufficient Finnair Plus points, or points that are soon to expire, or an available travel class upgrade award, which are needed to redeem the seat. The service is personal and flight-specific.

In the near future, it will also be possible for Finnair customers to pay by mobile for various travel services, such as special meals for flights as well as different products, such as tickets for entry to the Finnair Spa & Saunas at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport.

Finnair's mobile services in a nutshell:
− Check-in boarding pass by mobile phone
− Upgrade with points: upgrading travel class by mobile phone
− ViaHelsinki Message: entry to Finnair Spa & Saunas at Helsinki-Vantaa airport by answering a text message
− Schedule Change Notification: text messages on schedule changes
− Delayed Departure Notification: text messages on flight delays
− Irregularities Messages: text messages on irregular situations
− Airport Change Notification: text messages on airport-level changes
− Delayed Baggage Notification: notification of delayed baggage
− Own booking information: using a mobile browser, at the address m.finnair.com – includes the opportunity to change seat, update one's own contact information and obtain general travel-related news, such as flight departure and arrival times and airport information.
A mobile payment intelligent text message (iSMS) system has been developed by BookIT Oy and Luottokunta.

Finnair Bangkok airport Business Class lounge

New lounge facilities, located on two levels, have been opened for Finnair Business Class passengers at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport.

The new Louis Tavern CIP First and Business Class Lounges are found on Concourse G, levels 3 and 4, after passport control, opposite gates G1 and G2. Level 4 is on the same floor as check-in and passport control.

Both lounges have their own smoking room inside the lounge, and a small corner for golf enthusiasts. A private room in the First Class lounge can be reserved in advance.

The expansive lounge offers 24 hour service, provided by typically attentive and friendly Thai staff, with showers, internet, a smoking lounge, magazines and newspapers, and even a play area for children. Sandwiches, snacks, juices, coffee and alcoholic beverages are all available. Passengers are called when their flight is ready to board.
Finnair Plus Platinum members, Finnair Plus Gold members, Finnair Plus Silver members and Finnair Club members are welcomed to the Qantas/British Airways Business Class Lounge, also on Concourse G, on level 3. Finnair flies daily to Bangkok, and for much of the year twice daily, and the Thai capital is firmly established as one of our most popular and important destinations. That’s why it’s important to offer customers the best possible facilities at Suvarnabhumi, one of Asia’s busiest airport hubs.

Finnair nonstop flights to Delhi india

Finnair begins daily nonstop flights to Delhi, india. Thanks to the excellent geographical location of Helsinki on the great circle route, the flight time to Delhi is only 6 hours 30 minutes.
"Our route is the shortest between the europe and India, so it is of genuine interest to travellers between the destinations. Advance demand for the route has been great, even though we are only just starting the flights. We have also seen a big increase in demand for air cargo from India to Europe", he says.

There are relatively few frequencies from the whole of Europe to Delhi and no direct connections from Northern Europe. The new route has excellent connections to Delhi from Scandinavia, the Baltic Sea area and whole of Northern Europe, with short flight times even to London and Paris. In the Delhi-Helsinki direction, quick Finnair connections serve to around 30 cities in Europe. Delhi on the other hand is the main airline hub in India and offers excellent connections to the rest of the country.

The Delhi route is Finnair's tenth Asian destination and a natural continuation to the company's Asian strategy. Finnair has been systematically increasing its number of destinations in Asia since 1999. Already a third of the airline's revenues result for scheduled traffic comes from Asian routes.

Finnair flies in China to Beijing and Shanghai six times weekly, to Hong Kong and Guangzhou three times a week. At the end of 2010, Finnair also increased the number of direct flights to Osaka, Nagoya and Seoul. A new destination, Singapore, will open in May, and in June Finnair will increase the number of flights to Hong Kong. Next summer, Finnair will fly a record number of 74 flights per week to 10 Asian cities.

new allegiant air honolulu flights

Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air is delaying its honolulu flights by a year.

Alaska Airlines recently announced they will be starting service from Bellingham (located about 1.5hrs north of Seattle right by the Canadian border) to Honolulu starting January 7th.

The carrier, which plans to fly from small cities that don't offer direct flights to the islands, said at a company investors presentation that regulatory issues have delayed the planned start of service to Hawaii until 2012.

"We felt it was better to break the process down into bite-size chunks rather than swallow the elephant whole at one time," he said. "We talked to some carriers and were told that getting ETOPS authority (certification to fly over water) is a tough process, it's time-consuming and it takes a lot of resources. We want that to be our full focus when we go into it."

In addition to getting ETOPS authority, Allegiant needs to get its newly acquired Boeing 757s on its operating certificate and get "flag status" that will allow Allegiant to fly routes beyond the 48 contiguous states, such as to Hawaii.

Gallagher said Allegiant already has the first two 757s in its fleet, plans to acquire two more over the next two months and expects to obtain the remaining two 757s in November 2011. He said the company will amend its Hawaii plans and familiarize itself with the 757s by using the two it currently has for Las Vegas routes.

"We'll focus on running the airplane in and out of Las Vegas," Gallagher said. "We want to learn how to run it. We want to learn corporate experiences. We want to understand our maintenance aspects -- anything that has to do with the safe operation. We'll create revenue. It's not Hawaii, but it's the same as Hawaii in the sense that what we'll do here is sell packages, bring passengers out here on a vacation-oriented thing."
